Baseball ‘25
Here are some notes and observations I jotted down while watching some spring college games around Ohio back in 2025.
March 14
Case Western Reserve. 12
Wittenberg University 11
Pioneer Park
Marietta, Ohio
Marietta/BSN Invitational Tournament
Sunshine 64 degrees
—Weird between inning music. Everything from country music to death metal. Worst tune, “Cowboys & Plowboys” Horrible.
—No roof over the grandstand. I moved to the only shady spot below the press box that covered the top two rows. A team from New York showed up in their uniforms and sat in the shade around me. I was surrounded by the entire team. People probably thought I was someone’s grandpa.
April 24
*Mt. Vernon 8
Hunington University 5
Cougar Field
Mt. Vernon, Ohio
Sunshine. 80 degrees
—Hunington picks up their own bats. After a player hits, the man in the 2 hole runs out and grabs the hitters bat. Never seen this before.
—Hunington has a player named Paco 2B. Kind of a hot dog. A teammate who picked up his bat muttered, ‘Pick up your own (bad word) Paco’
—Both teams have an incredible amount of mullets & cheesy mustaches. Looks like 1986
May 8
John Carroll 9
Mount Union. 3
Rafeld-Rogers Field
Alliance, Ohio
Cloudy 60 degrees
OAC Tournament, Round 1
—Same home plate ump as in Mt.Vernon
—John Carroll bunts 3 times in a row!
